On August 9, 2001 President George W. Bush decided to allow limited research on existing stem cells. He made this decision to cater to the wants and needs of as many different people as he could. The science community was content that he at least allowed some research to be done, while anti-stem cell activists were content that he took some moral stance in limiting the research. However, neither side was overly pleased. He could have done more, some argue.
